Athletic Support Specialist

As an athletic support specialist, I believe athletic performance derives from a person’s overall well-being. Thus, I practice seeing and supporting the individual before the athlete.

Services

Pedagogy

My professional practice derives from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT’s pedagogical practice is that we cannot change our thoughts but can only change our behaviors in response to said thoughts. All of my services, 1-to-1 and group consultations, as well as workshops, are underpinned by ACT.

1-to-1 consultation

We begin with an intake session evaluating personal needs and goals while also getting to know one another. After this session, you will receive a post-session proposal addressing needs and goals. From there, we work to create individualized, evidence-based plans to facilitate growth. Sessions include session notes tracking individual goals and growth.

Group consultation

Whether working as a duo or team, sessions can be held in groups, too. There is an initial intake meeting to understand the goals and needs of the group before working and implementing interventions.

Workshops

Interactive and evidence-based workshops available for groups and teams to help promote cohesion, growth, and innovation.

Outcomes

As an athletic support specialist, I support the individual before the athlete. That is because I believe the athletic identity is only one facet of an individual’s identity. I promote psychological flexibility through self-awareness, reflection, and action to lead a value-driven and fulfilling life in which sport can enrich. Through our work together, my goal is to equip you with the psychological mindset and tools for you to continue on your journey without my guidance.

FAQ:

  • How long are sessions?
    • Following the intake session, which typically lasts 60-70 minutes, sessions thereafter are booked for an hour. However, sessions last 45-minutes. 15 minutes is dedicated to my session prep as well as writing up session notes. Additionally, if the client chooses, they can be provided with action point notes.
  • Where do sessions take place?
    • Sessions can be in-person or online via Google Meet. At the moment, I do not have a physical office. Therefore, we can meet where you choose – whether that be on the pitch, field, lake-side, or rink-side – or otherwise at your convenience. If we meet online, you only have to be located somewhere in the United States and have a stable internet connection.
  • Can I schedule weekly sessions? What if I need to meet more than once a week?
    • Yes, we can schedule sessions on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. We can also meet more than once a week if desired.
  • How much do sessions cost?
    • Individual sessions typically begin at $30 an hour. However, sliding scale payments are available on a case-to-case basis. For a more detailed answer or if you have any questions, please reach out to me via email.
